Receptionist

Receptionists are important and highly visible members of the school community. As well as monitoring calls and visitors, they are often a familiar figure for pupils, and can help make the school environment welcoming.

Receptionists and other non-teaching staff may get involved in the pastoral care of pupils. One case study shows how they were trained to do so, thereby helping to provide support to pupils while furthering their own professional development.

Another case study shows the example of a school setting up a homework hotline and putting student receptionists in place to deal with calls.
