Governor types

There are a number of types of governors, each with their own set of responsibilities, which are a little different or extra to the standard roles.

Under the School Governance Regulations 2003, maintained nursery schools must have governing bodies and all governing bodies are expected to have a new Instrument of Government by September 2006. The Instrument gives the name of the school and prescribes how many governors there are; who appoints, elects and co-opts them; who is eligible to be a governor; how long they serve. It must specify the numbers of governors from each a number of categories of governor to be elected or appointed.
